Heather’s Record

Challenging the Status Quo in HartfordAfter winning the election for state senator, Heather challenged business-as-usual in Hartford and brought greater accountability to public institutions by exposing wrongdoing and demanding reform. Heather uncovered a pattern of unethical behavior at CMEEC and led the charge to bring greater accountability to the municipal utility cooperative. She helped expose a pattern of abuse at Whiting Forensic, a state run mental health facility, and is currently leading the fight to hold the Malloy administration accountable for the failures in process and oversight that made the pervasive abuse possible and encouraging it to implement reforms so it can never happen again.

Delivering Results

Heather has proven she delivers results for the 18th district. Heather worked across the aisle to successfully pass a bipartisan plan to tackle the opioid epidemic that has caused such terrible pain in our region and state. She successfully passed a joint resolution that helped stop an unpopular railroad bypass from cutting through Mystic and has also led the fight to prevent an unpopular state gun range from being located in Griswold.

Heather has also fought to protect our local assets and key industries -- including Electric Boat, the U.S. Sub Base, our tribal casinos, our tourism industry, our blossoming craft beer industry and our local commercial fishing fleet.

When Gov. Malloy threatened Groton with massive cuts to local education, Heather took him head-on and won — protecting state funding for our schools and students.

Business Leader

As a business leader, Heather knows what it takes to grow and expand jobs and wages here in Connecticut. Heather started a biotech manufacturing company that has grown to create nearly 100 good-paying jobs in eastern Connecticut. Heather grew her company to export a Connecticut manufactured product worldwide.

Local Leader

As a town councilor and mayor of Groton, Heather built a reputation as a relentless advocate for taxpayers and her community. Heather served a combined 12 years as a local leader in Groton where she delivered a major tax decrease, grew the town’s grand list, improved the quality of education in town, and led efforts to boost small businesses in Mystic and in Groton City.

If re-elected, Heather will continue to deliver results for Eastern Connecticut, challenge the status quo in Hartford and fight for greater opportunities and a better future for all Connecticut residents.
